AI writing tools can be wonderful assistants: tireless brainstormers, speedy outliners and helpful first-draft partners. But they’re assistants, not authors. Today you’ll build a workflow where AI speeds you up and you stay firmly in charge of quality.
Where AI helps most
- Brainstorming: topic ideas, angles and questions your readers might ask.
- Outlining: a structure you then reshape with your own knowledge.
- Drafting sections: a starting point you rewrite in your own voice.
- Polishing: suggesting clearer sentences, titles, meta descriptions and summaries.
- Repurposing: turning a post into an email, social posts or a checklist.
A five-step workflow
- You decide the point. What’s the goal of this post, and what unique experience or insight can you add?
- AI helps outline. Ask for an outline, then cut, reorder and add what’s missing.
- Draft together. Let AI draft a section, then rewrite it, adding examples, screenshots and stories only you have.
- Fact-check everything. Verify every claim, statistic, name, step and link against reliable sources.
- Edit for voice and value. Read it aloud. Would a reader learn something they couldn’t get anywhere else?
Professor’s warning: AI tools can “hallucinate,” confidently stating facts, quotes, statistics or instructions that are wrong or made up. Never publish AI output without human verification, and be extra careful with health, legal and financial topics.
Quality and trust
Search engines have said they focus on whether content is helpful and reliable, not simply how it was produced. Mass-producing thin pages mainly to manipulate rankings is risky no matter who writes them. Your original experience, clear explanations and honest recommendations are what set your content apart.
Consider being transparent with readers about how you use AI, and check the terms of the tools you use, especially regarding what data you paste in. Never feed private customer data into a tool that isn’t approved for it.
